Institute of Social and Political Psychology
NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PEDAGOGICAL SCIENCES OF UKRAINE
The Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) was established on October 14, 1996 by the decision of the Presidium of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine (Minutes No. 1-7 / 11-90) by reorganization of the Scientific and Practical Center for Political Psychology (date of the Center’s organization – January 26, 1994). ) He has the status of a legal entity of state ownership, whose activities include research and development in the field of humanities and social sciences, market research and the study of public opinion (Reference 15650/04 from the State Register of Enterprises and Organizations of Ukraine). He is a collective member of the Society of Psychologists of Ukraine, the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine, and the Sociological Association of Ukraine.
The main direction of the institution’s activity is fundamental and applied scientific research covering the following main subjects:
theoretical and methodological foundations of social and political psychology;
a comprehensive analysis of the social situation of the personal and civic development of children and youth;
psychological mechanisms of socialization of the person, increase of its social-adaptation possibilities, personal growth;
problems of group dynamics, interpersonal and intergroup relationships;
condition, patterns and trends of mass consciousness and behavior;
socio-psychological factors of formation of political and legal consciousness of youth;
socio-psychological conditions and factors of the person’s participation in political life, preparation of young people for conscious political choice;
problems of psychology of power and political leadership;
socio-psychological aspects of mass communication, organization of media education of youth, formation of psychological resistance to socially harmful information;
technologies of social and psychological counseling, forecasting socio-political processes and influencing their course.

The Institute employs over 100 research staff, including 3 correspondent members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 18 doctors and 48 candidates of sciences. Leading scientists of the Institute are highly skilled experts with significant experience in implementing social analytical projects, in particular in the field of education.
Scientists of the Institute actively work in the field of psychological practice. The main areas of work in this area are:
psychological counseling;
psychological support of people in crisis and their relatives;
psychotherapeutic support;
art therapy;
social psychological trainings, business games, “brainstorming”;
psychodiagnostic examination;
testing of advertising and informational materials, preparation of expert conclusions.
The scientists of the Institute have developed and are being taught courses at leading Ukrainian higher education institutions.
The Institute carries out postgraduate and doctoral training of specialists of higher qualification in specialties 19.00.01 – general psychology. history of psychology; 19.00.05 – social psychology, psychology of social work; 19.00.11 – political psychology for scientific institutions, higher and secondary educational institutions, as well as for public administration, law enforcement agencies, for the system of social protection, mass media.
